My first week as a University of Iowa student has been a week that I don’t think I’ll forget anytime soon. Moving across the country and starting at a completely new school came with a lot of excitement, but also a lot of nerves. There were so many questions running through my head before I even got here. Would I make friends? Would I like my classes? Would I feel comfortable in a completely new environment? Most importantly, would Iowa start to feel like home?<\/p>\n
Now that my first week is over, I can say that while I don’t have all the answers yet, I already feel like I made the right decision.<\/p>\n
One of the biggest adjustments has been simply getting used to campus. The University of Iowa campus is much bigger than what I was used to, and there is always something happening. During my first few days, I had to figure out where my classes were, where to get food, how to get around campus, and all of the little things that come with being a college student. At first, it felt like there was a lot to remember. After a few days, though, I started recognizing buildings and finding my way around a little easier.<\/p>\n
My classes have also been an interesting experience. Being a university student feels different from what I’m used to, and there is definitely more responsibility placed on me. Nobody is constantly reminding me about every assignment or telling me exactly what I need to do. I have to keep track of my own schedule and make sure I’m staying on top of everything. It is a little intimidating, but at the same time, it feels good knowing that I am responsible for my own education.<\/p>\n
Another big part of my first week has been meeting new people. Starting somewhere new means that almost everyone is in the same boat in some way. Even though it can be intimidating to introduce yourself to people you don’t know, I’ve realized that college is full of opportunities to meet people. Whether it’s in class, around the residence halls, or just walking around campus, there are always people around.<\/p>\n
Of course, my first week hasn’t been perfect. There have been moments where I’ve felt overwhelmed, gotten turned around on campus, or wondered if I was really ready for such a big change. But I think those moments are part of the experience. I didn’t move to Iowa expecting everything to feel normal immediately. I’m learning as I go.<\/p>\n
One of the coolest parts of this first week has been realizing that I’m actually here. For a long time, college was something I was preparing for and looking forward to. Now I’m walking around campus, going to classes, meeting people, and officially calling myself a Hawkeye.<\/p>\n
I know I still have a lot to learn, both inside and outside of the classroom. I don’t know exactly what the next few months will look like, and I’m sure there will be good days and difficult ones. But after my first week at the University of Iowa, I’m excited to find out.<\/p>\n
This is only the beginning, and I have a feeling there are going to be a lot of memories made along the way.<\/p>\n
