I know, you would think a blog on the Experience Iowa site would be about…experiences at the University of Iowa.
But before we get into the good stuff, I wanted to introduce myself properly – beyond the bio on my page.
I’m Dhanya Rajiv. I come from India, but I used to live in the USA (Chicago, New Jersey, and Atlanta) up until 5th grade. Nonetheless, Iowa is new for me, so a lot of my posts will probably be about exploring Iowa City and culture.
I absolutely enjoy creative pursuits. Storytelling and creative writing have been absolute cornerstones in my life, becoming important ways for me to process my emotions and express myself. I do plan to pull all the stops of my writing abilities with Experience Iowa, but more on that in later posts.
I also like to make short films. I’ll soon be setting up YouTube and Instagram accounts to showcase these works. But, until then, I’m only on LinkedIn and Pinterest (if those even count as social media).
I’m not a huge sports fan (a Hawkeye in spirit). My interests pivot around books, movies, and society.
I’m an IB DP graduate with a score of 41, so for the lack of better words, I do tend to be a “nerd” (wow, do I hate that word). But, I do enjoy learning and studying. It was and is something that I do out of passion, not out of obligation.
Speaking of passion, I’m highly passionate about psychology, and hence, that’s my major. As of now, I want to become a clinical/counseling psychologist. I also enjoy learning about biology, so I soon picked that up as my second major. I also hope to work in fields of neuroscience, at least for research.
The most important thing about me is that I’m a perfectionistic procrastinator. I wanted to write so much about OnIowa! and my first days here, but I kept putting it off for various reasons. On the bright side, I now get to write and share my thoughts after getting used to the university.
Well, that wasn’t a half-bad introduction! Please share your thoughts and ideas for posts in the comments.
Stay tuned for more!
