Fall Getaway

I just returned to campus from my first Christian retreat with Campus Crusade aka Cru.  Campus Crusade is a Christian organization that meets in the IMU on Thursday nights.  I have only been a member for two weeks, but I have met so many people already.  Fall Getaway was an amazing experience.  The atmosphere was filled with the Holy Spirit.  If you are an incoming freshman or if you are already a student and don’t have a strong Christian community to spend time with, Cru is definitely the place for you.  We left Campus on Friday for our retreat, which took place only a half hour away from campus.  The trip was also not very expensive.  Our speaker for the weekend was Bob Fuhs.  I had never heard of him before, but he taught us a lot over the entirety of the weekend.  We also had times where we could separate into male and female group, so we could talk about more personal things.  The bible camp was absolutely gorgeous.  Here are some photos to prove my point…

Also at the retreat there was a talent show that consisted of singers, dancers, impersonators, and musicians.  Fall Getaway was an experience that I will never forget.  If you are an incoming freshman or a current student that does not have a strong Christian community, Cru is the place for you.  Here is a link to their website if you would like to know some more info.  Check it out and I hope to see you there!!

Sportsnation in Hubbard Park

These past few weeks have been so crazy with homework and other activities that I have not had the time to blog.  Personally one of the most exciting things that has happened since my last post has been the visit of Sportsnation to the University of Iowa.  If you’re not familiar with the show it’s a sports show on ESPN hosted by Colin Cowherd and Michelle Beadle.  The morning started of with Colin’s radio show The Herd.  While standing in the hot sun I decided that before Sportsnation I was going to change into something cooler.  When I got back students could sign up for free football tickets and received a free throwback t-shirt for the upcoming Ball State game. I talked to a lot of people around me and I met up with my friend after she got out of class.  We were right by the stage so we were all excited for the show to start.  By this point the clouds began to get darker and a cold draft was coming into Hubbard Park.  The producer of the show said it was going to be postponed due to lightning and that we were all welcome to hang out in the IMU and wait for it to pass.  I looked around at the people I had gotten to know and asked my friend if she was willing to stay and wait out the storm where we were.  We didn’t think it would be that bad.  As soon as I had finished my sentence the rain came.  POURING!!!  Luckily my friend had an umbrella, so five of us huddled under her umbrella and waited it out.  Everyone was in good spirits and we even said a few cheers.  Twenty minutes later the rain was over and the hosts came back out to start the show.  About a half hour later my friend had to leave for her class, and the rain returned.  The show was really fun and I enjoyed feeling the adrenaline of Iowa Hawkeye fans.
