Look up the majors you’re curious about and jot down a few questions before you arrive. You’ll get more out of the tour and have answers to the things that matter most to you.
Take the Tour, Then Explore
Our official tour covers the highlights, from the Pentacrest and the Iowa Memorial Union to the Pedestrian Mall and a residence hall showroom. After the tour, go to that coffee shop the tour guide mentioned, or take a stroll to the shops downtown. Grab a bite, browse a bookstore, or just people-watch for a bit. It’s an easy way to see what a typical afternoon in Iowa City might look like and how campus and downtown connect. Talk to Current Students
Tour guides, student staff, and the person next to you at lunch. Current students can give you the real version of campus life. Ask what they do outside the classroom, both on campus and off, and don’t be afraid to ask the “irrelevant” questions:
- Where’s the best coffee on campus?
- Where do students go to study?
- What does a typical weekend look like?
- What’s one thing you wish you’d known before you started?
Take Notes and Photos
Be sure to snap pictures of your visit and take notes so that you can compare them to other colleges you might visit. Could you see yourself here? There’s no wrong answer, just useful information.
