Hi Readers!
I feel that lately, especially after Halloween and Homecoming, campus has hit a sluggish point. Everyone is tired and ready for a small break during Thanksgiving, and we are so close! I just wanted to give out a few reminders that have been helping me push through these next few weeks.
- Do Not Procrastinate
- I know it is easy to say “I will do that assignment later” or “I can get it done another time,” but try to push through and get all your stuff done while you can. Pushing off homework adds up and can create more stress and possible burnout. Everyone procrastinates here and there (I know I have been lately), but the best thing you can do for yourself is set aside time each day to do some work. This work does not have to be rigorous each day, but a little bit a day can go a long way.
- Attend Classes
- This one sounds obvious, but you will be shocked at how good staying in bed sounds every day instead of going to class. Going to class not only is necessary to keep up good grades, but forces you to get up and ready for the day. I struggle with my early morning class, but every day I force myself up to get up and ready because if I don’t, I know I’ll be lying in bed all day. So, make sure you are still going to your classes even if you think you will be fine not attending a lecture here and there.
- Take Time to Treat Yourself
- Make sure each day, you take some time to yourself. I am not talking about just lying in bed doom-scrolling on your phone, but take some time to go to a favorite study spot or get some coffee in the IMU (that’s what I am doing while writing this!). Maybe going to the gym or watching a movie with friends is what you need, but just make sure you set time aside to relax your mind. A lot of people forget college is not just about studying and doing work, but also experiencing and living life at the same time.
- Check in
- Final suggestion I have, is to check in with your friends and family. I know when I have been struggling to stay motivated, I call my sister or mom and just talk to them for a bit. I also check in on my friends. They are experiencing college life and possibly struggling to stay motivated just like me, so I check in on them, maybe even plan something to give us a much-needed break. Sometimes, when I need it, I also talk to my RA. There is always people out there to support you, and they need your support, so make sure you are checking in with them!
Make sure you are taking care of yourself, Hawks! We are so close to Thanksgiving Break, then a final push before the semester ends.
Thank you for reading!
With love,
Danica Ringlaben
