Hi everyone!
This past month has been a whirlwind. I have done a lot regarding studio classes, like drawing the human figure and painting my face over and over. But I’ve also been doing a lot of work outside of class!
This year I joined SCOPE, a student organization on the University of Iowa campus dedicated to bringing quality concerts and entertainment to the University of Iowa campus and Iowa City Community. SCOPE stands for Student Commission on Programming Entertainment (a mouthful, I know…).
I was really nervous to join SCOPE as it’s a bit competitive and always seemed out of reach for me, but now, as I’m almost two months into being a member, I cannot be happier about my decision. In the org, I do a lot of content and am a part of the content committee. I help make posters, reels for event promotion, and come up with ideas on how to highlight SCOPE on campus.
This organization has given me some amazing friends and a way to get outside my comfort zone while still feeling safe and understanding of what I’m learning. If you feel disconnected from campus or want something new to do, I highly recommend joining a student organization. There are so many different types of orgs for all different needs, and it never hurts to try multiple groups before deciding what you want. It’s really scary at first, but once you find your club, you’ll be so happy about your choice.
