Hi! My name is Jade Silva and I am originally from Muscatine, Iowa. I am a first generation high school graduate and college graduate. I graduated from The University of Iowa in 2005 with my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. During my years at Iowa I joined a historically Latina sorority that was founded on Iowa’s campus, Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority, Inc.; I was also a member of ALMA (Association of Latinos Moving Ahead), was an Opportunity at Iowa scholar and an Orientation Advisor.
I came back to work for Iowa in 2009, after having worked in the HR field and for my sorority’s national headquarters after graduation. I truly enjoy speaking with high school students about coming to The University of Iowa and showing them the great opportunities that Iowa has to offer. Being a first generation college student, I understand that the college process can be confusing and I LOVE helping students find their way through the process, talk them through financial aid, housing and all the great student organizations to get involved with!
For this year, I will be traveling to Muscatine and Louisa counties in Iowa; Quad Cities, Kane County and some Chicago schools in Illinois; San Antonio and the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.
Hope you will enjoy my blogging as I travel throughout Iowa, Illinois and Texas!
