Hello,
I love college so much, but it can have a lot of emotions come out. One of them is homesickness. While I tend not to feel it in the fall semester, I tend to get really sad around January and February. I have some really great tips though to help with those sad feelings. Here are some of my tips to help with those days when home is where you want to be.
Write about it. Do you have a notes app or a journal you write in? Well, write all your feelings. It doesn’t have to make sense, but it should just be a way to write those emotions. Not only will this help you get things you might not have initially thought of, but you don’t have to read this to anyone. It’s just for you.
Two, tell your parents if your relationship is good with your family, and be honest. Usually, they will miss you too and maybe they can call. Or if they are close enough they can come to your school for a day or two. Sometimes all you need is family time.
Next, you should get out of the room. I know you might feel like you are super down or don’t want to leave, but human connections are super important!!! Text a friend or get dinner with your roommates or friends down the hall. That will get those good endorphins just by talking. If you are close enough, you could even tell them. Sometimes they also feel the same and it might help to have someone to connect to.
Last give yourself a break. I am not encouraging skipping class at all, don’t do that. But if you have a class that has a lecture online (some have Zoom or just record it), then go to that. Also after class, instead of doing homework right away, maybe go to the gym or watch an episode of your favorite TV show.
Those are my recommendations for homesickness. Have a wonderful day
Cheers
Rose
