I may be biased, but my favorite days of the year are spent at Kinnick Stadium cheering on the Hawkeyes! I absolutely love game days, and if you’re a new student, I am going to tell you how to do it right. The number one tip that I have is to first dress up with the team of the game. For example, this year at Homecoming it will be black out! For the upcoming game, dress in the color that corresponds to your section (if you’re in the student section, it’s black, by the way). The next thing I cannot recommend is to eat a big breakfast. You will most likely be out and about the whole day and probably will get very hungry! Usually, I will have a chicken sandwich for my breakfast before heading out. The next place I go to is my friend’s parents’ tailgate, where I once again enjoy more snacks and usually some fun sweet desserts.
Sometimes my plan is a little different when I am selling Homecoming Buttons since this year, I am serving on the Executive Board of Homecoming Council. If you want to buy a button this weekend, make sure to visit the Homecoming Tent on Melrose right in front of the stadium.
Also, this weekend ESPN College GameDay is visiting our school! This hasn’t happened in 20 years! So please, please, please show up and go! Make sure to make a fun sign too! I haven’t come up with mine, but I will have it made by Friday!
Finally, after all this fun, it’s time to head into the Football game! Once you find your seat, the players will run out, and the game will begin. Throughout the game, there are many fun experiences that will occur, such as the marching band playing, Spirit Squad, the Iowa Dance Team, and of course the Hawkeye Wave!
