This is part two of my winter break blog, and I will be continuing where I left off from my last one. I haven’t even made it to Christmas yet. I opened presents on Christmas Eve at my mom’s house.
What I forgot to mention as one of my gifts from my mom was matcha powder. My sister has been making it a lot at our house since we have a fancy coffee maker here. So she made some for me with some coconut cream, some lavender sauce or something, and the powder. She taught me how to make it myself, too, and how to make cold foam. I’m not a barista, so I don’t know any of the lingo. Never really have, even when ordering. But it was a nice bonding experience between the two of us, in my opinion, and I got matcha out of it. Despite people saying it’s for performative males, I actually like matcha. It tastes like grass, but a good kind of grass. Like, a sweet sugary grass, and I’m a cow eating it.
Stranger Things volume 2 came out at this time too, and I watched it in the basement. Safe to say I was a little disappointed. It wasn’t what I thought it was going to be, and I was hoping for better. I lost a lot of faith in the writing of the whole show, and what it’s come to be today. It seemed like someone wrote it up with some cheesy AI, or just completely disregarded any development for any of the characters. All I care about is that Steve is alive, though.
The day after Christmas, I went back to my dad’s house and had to work again. I worked from 10 in the morning to 10 at night, so I was not very happy when I returned and was getting screamed at for making my cousins and everyone wait around to take a picture. I told my dad in advance that I wouldn’t be able to be back until 1o pm, and yet everyone was nagging me to hurry up. When I actually got home and tried to change, they knocked on my door every 20 seconds, telling me “hurry up!” Nothing has changed since the last time you knocked, and now I have a reason to be mad if I didn’t already.
I barely got to hang out with my cousins, who came from Switzerland. They left the next morning, and I was already recovering from the lack of it the past few days. and weeks. Maybe months.
One cat that missed me is my cat Skyburt. He has not really ever been a cat that comes and sits on your lap, or anything. He’s the kind that literally kills a fox in the backyard and goes out in the middle of the night to protect the neighborhood. But he’s been coming to my room or sleeping outside my door. He’s gotten closer to me since I let him out in the middle of the night, since nobody else is up, I feed him, give him water, and I pet him when nobody else does. So I missed him; he missed me. I’m sad I’ll have to go back to campus for a couple of months and won’t be able to see him, though.
I also went to a New Year’s party with some of my friends, which was really nice. I haven’t seen most of them for a bit, as well as some other friends. But this break and the party were pretty fun. We played games, had food, and drank sparkling wine since none of us drinks. At least, I think. We also watched the final episode of Stranger Things, and I was VERY disappointed in this one as well. I just wish they re-did the season in a much better way. An apocalypse version would be so cool, like how season 4 ended. That’s how I thought it was going to be at least.
I spent the next week working for a while since I have to pay for college. So I spent hours sitting at a checkstand scanning groceries. I’m good at it, but it’s not my favorite. That’s a big reason why I’m going to school, so I don’t have to work retail. No disrespect to the workers, but I don’t think I would like to do that instead of teaching.
Now that break is finally over, I think it’s safe to say it’s been really fun over break. But it’s nice to be back on campus with my friends I’ve made, and get back to doing something besides waiting. I can’t sit idle forever. Anyway, that’s all for now!
