Becoming an RA: The Application

Hey all!

I was recently offered a position as a resident assistant for the 2024-25 school year, so I’m here to talk about the application. A resident assistant is a student who lives on a floor of a residence hall and ensures floor community and unity, and the first person to go to in case of problems and emergencies. They get free housing and meal plans, as well as a stipend, so it is a great job to have.

To get the application, you must attend one of several information sessions that cover what being an RA entails and the application process. They take attendance, which will then let them email you the application.

The application includes some short essay questions about yourself and how you are involved on campus. If selected in this round, you get to be interviewed virtually.

The virtual interview is held by members of Housing and Dining, other RAs, and Hall Coordinators. They ask you questions on how you would handle things as an RA, yourself, and how you have handled problems in your life.

If you are chosen as an RA, you will receive an email about a month after with the next steps.
