Hey y’all!
Today I’m offering advice for preparing for move-out in May. The idea of having to pack everything up again sounds daunting, but there are ways to eliminate that stress by preparing ahead of time!
- Start bringing clothes back over breaks! Bring a mixture of cold and warm weather clothes home if you can, and leave enough so you can dress for either season. Since Iowa’s weather can be unpredictable, I recommend leaving your coat and snow boots in the dorm until you move out!
- Clear out drawers. Recycle papers or toss items you do not need anymore, donate items that can donated if you do not want them anymore.
- Bring items home you don’t need for the rest of the year. I bought so many books this year, so I brought them back to Arizona with me since I can do without them!
- Get a storage space rented or find a place to keep items. As an out-of-state student, I cannot bring all my dorm supplies back. My roommate has a shed on her property so I’m keeping my winter clothes and dorm supplies there, but if you aren’t that lucky, there are many affordable storage rental places in town.
- Finish up food and other items to clear up space.
- Deep clean your room! Pull furniture out to get dust and other things that probably haven’t seen a Swiffer since moving in.
Bye for now!
